1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Special School – Barnet, London

This long-term role involves providing 1:1 tailored support to students with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) issues, and care needs. You will play a crucial role in helping students engage with their learning in a safe, nurturing environment while promoting their emotional and physical well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to students with ASD, care needs, and other complex learning difficulties
- Assist with personalised learning plans to ensure students’ individual needs are met
- Support students with their personal care and daily routines, ensuring dignity and safety at all times
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and other support staff to develop and implement effective strategies for student progress
- Help foster a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging student independence and social skills
- Monitor and track student progress, ensuring they are meeting their goals and reporting any concerns
Essential Criteria:
- Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with ASD and complex care needs
- Previous experience in a 1:1 support role
- Patience, empathy, and a caring approach to working with children who have complex needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and parents
- A proactive and flexible attitude to support students’ varied needs
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in a special school setting or similar environment
- Training in personal care or related qualifications
Additional Information:
- Full-time, Monday to Friday
- Paid £95 – £110 per day, term time only
- Based in Barnet, London – excellent transport links
